Helping you find your mover

Moving Garage Sale

A moving garage sale or yard sale is a great way of getting rid of things you no longer need, and making some money at the same time! It can be a big relief to be free of all those things that you have not used for months or years. You will also save on the cost of moving a lot of useless junk to your new home.

As soon as you find out that you need to relocate, you can start sorting your possessions into those you want to take with you, and those you want to sell, donate to charity, or throw away.

Check with your local government about the regulations for organizing garage sales.

Fridays and Saturdays may be the best days to organize garage moving sales because people tend to have other plans on Sundays.

You can start your garage sale as early as is convenient, because many people like to be there ahead of the crowd so they can get their hands on prized items! You may like to start as early as 9:00 am, and close up by about 5:00 pm, if it is convenient.

You can arrange the sale at your garage, yard, basement, or driveway, but if you live in an apartment, your only choice may be to arrange your garage sale at a friend’s home, or at the local flea market.

It may be a good idea to park your car somewhere else to make room for the cars of your buyers. Inform your neighbors about the garage sale in advance because they like to take a look at the things on sale, and be prepared for the increased traffic.

Call up everyone you know and tell them about the sale. You may be able to arrange for free garage sale listings in the neighborhood newspapers, though you will have to pay for garage sale ads released in the leading papers. Don’t forget to mention the time, date, location, and details of any special items that may be on sale.

Post fliers at the local stores, and put up big garage sale signs at prominent locations.

Prepare for the garage sale by putting garage sale pricing stickers on everything. Keep similar items together, and separate things that are not for sale. Keep a calculator and a cash box with lots of small change handy.

Fragile items can be packed in newspaper, and carry bags can be kept ready so people will be able to carry things away.
