Tips for Moving
These tips for moving will help you to make a smooth and stress-free relocation. Moving has been rated as one of the most stressful experiences in life, but you can reduce the anxiety for yourself and your family by planning your move methodically, and choosing a reliable mover.
Make a moving checklist as soon as you find out that you have to move, and keep it in a folder, with all other papers related to your move. Delegate work to your family members.
Start packing non-essential items as soon as you come to know that you are moving. Obtain professional quality moving supplies and moving boxes that will keep your things safe.
Label and number each box and write the contents on it. Clearly mention the name of the room in your new home, where you want the movers to put it.
Make a floor plan of your new home and make squares where you want each piece of furniture to be placed. Give a copy to the movers.
Start looking for a suitable moving company several weeks before moving day, so you will have enough time to search for the right mover. Obtain moving estimates from at least three moving services, and verify their credentials and past performance, before you select one of them.
Select a moving service on the basis of a good reputation, rather than on the basis of a very low quote.
Ask for references, and call them up to ask about their experiences. See if any complaints have been lodged against the moving companies, on the website of the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
Visit the website of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to view the profiles of interstate moving companies.

A full service moving company can take care of all the packing, transportation and unpacking for you, though it will cost you quite a lot. If you want to save money you can do the packing yourself, and drive a rented truck to your new home.
If you don’t like the idea of driving a moving truck hundreds of miles, you can also opt for a self service move, which will cost you a little more than doing it all yourself.
A self service moving company will leave one or more crates or a trailer outside your home in which you can pack your things. The company will pick up the crate or trailer after a few days and drive it to your new home, where you can unpack.
